Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is a nationwide effort organized by the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives and the Society for Neuroscience to promote the public and personal benefits of brain research. The official week for the next BAW is March 13-19, 2023, but any week is a good time to get involved.

Brain Awareness Week: Your Sensational Brain

The Outreach Brain Awareness Week Event for Children: Your Sensational Brain has been held for several years at the Children’s Resource Center (Children Library), 913 Napoleon Ave in New Orleans. We look forward to hosting this event in the future. 

 

The activities include:

– Show and tell of various fixed brains

– Show and tell of brain and neuron models

– Demonstration with brain slices and stained neurons under a microscope

– Demonstration of the knee jerk reflex, with children “behaving like neurons”

– Coloring of brain templates

– Making models of brains and neurons with play-doh

– Showing optical illusions
